NJOY Files for Bankruptcy

Electronic-cigarette maker NJOY Inc. has filed a voluntary petition for Chapter 11 bankruptcy relief in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

In court documents, the company cited the failure of its Kings 2.0 disposable e-cigarette in the marketplace and the expense of relaunching and repackaging the NJOY brand, the expense of launching an updated online sales and marketing platform and the legal expense of patent infringement lawsuits, among other reasons for the filing.

It also cited the “substantial expense in addressing and preparing for” new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tobacco “deeming” regulations.

Scottsdale, Ariz.-based NJOY is a leading independent U.S. manufacturer and distributor of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) including e-cigarettes and vaping products.
