In an effort to raise awareness of the benefits to switching from regular cigarettes to electronic cigarettes (“E-Cigarette”), one company is offering adult smokers a trade-in: Give up your cigarette and we will give you a free e-cigarette device instead.
E-cigarettes are an alternative to smoking tobacco products, such as cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. It is a battery-powered device that provides users with flavour and physical sensation similar to that of a regular cigarette but without the many harmful ingredients and chemicals.
Behind the Butt-Out event is Blow Vapor, a company based out of Woodbridge, Ontario which designs, markets, and distributes vaporizers, e-liquids and electronic cigarettes to the Canadian marketplace.
Representatives of Blow Vapor will be on hand today during the lunch hour at busy downtown locations frequented by adult smokers who will be offered a deal: Butt-out your cigarette, and we will replace it with a Blow Vapor E-Cigarette. “This event is not just about a trade-in. It is about creating opportunities with current smokers to have meaningful conversations about quitting smoking and considering an alternative,” said Karla Pena, of Blow Vapor.
“In Canada, a person dies every 12 minutes of tobacco related disease. Tobacco smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals of which more than 70 are known to cause, initiate or promote cancer,” says Fernando Di Carlo, President of Blow Vapor. “E-cigarettes can provide a healthier alternative that can help people quit smoking today and that is what today’s event is really all about.”
E-cigarettes have been growing in use in Canada and across the globe and are currently a source of debate for public health advocates and the media. However, supporters have been vocal in addressing the potential advantages to e-cigarettes.
In August 2015, Public Health England (PHE) released a report that concluded e-cigarettes are about 95% less harmful than tobacco cigarettes. Smoking kills about 100,000 people a year in the UK.
“At Blow Vapor, we strongly believe that e-cigarettes are a low risk alternative and we are confident that when you equip individuals with the right information and the right alternatives, quitting smoking becomes a very attainable goal,” says Di Carlo.
